Nine artworks from the 2020 Fisher’s Ghost Art Award are adding vibrant colour to Campbelltown Hospital’s new administration hub, one of the first areas completed as part of the $632 million stage two redevelopment.

Acting Camden and Campbelltown Hospitals General Manager, Associate Professor Sellappa Prahalath, said staff had visited Campbelltown Arts Centre to select the artworks for purchase, including five pieces from local artists.

“The arts is an important part of the hospital’s redevelopment, supporting the health and wellbeing of our staff, patients, consumers and visitors,’’ he said.

“The works on display in the administration area are creating a lot of interest. They look fantastic and celebrate the healing power of art.”

One of the works Fishes under the Sea placed at the reception area provides a vibrant welcome for staff and visitors.

Artist Geraldine Dela Cruz developed the piece during the pandemic and was inspired by the sacrifices and contributions made by frontline responders.

Associate Professor Prahalath said the hospital’s collaboration with Campbelltown Arts Centre supported the South Western Sydney Health and Arts Strategic Plan 2018-2023 and its vision that “arts and creativity move minds, bodies and spirits towards sustaining healthy lives”.

Campbelltown Arts Centre Director Michael Dagostino said he was excited about the inclusion of arts and culture in the hospital redevelopment.

“It’s exciting to see some of our talented local artists featured in the hospital’s new administration area,” he said.

“Working in collaboration with the redevelopment team, we’ve been able to foster a sustainable partnership between the health and arts sector and bring grassroots arts to a big-scale project.”

The stage 2 Campbelltown Hospital redevelopment will deliver a new clinical services building including an expanded and centrally located mental health units, upgraded maternity and paediatric services and enhanced diagnostic services.
